Lidia's Group's story

The Nueva Vida ["New Life"] association is part of the Panamericana group in the Bolivian city of El Alto. The association has worked with Pro-Mujer for seven years. Mostly married with an average of five children each, some of the members have been abandoned by their partners andhad to take sole charge of their families. That's what led them to seek out ways to make enough money to support their families.

Nueva Vida members have diverse businesses. Soledad, for example, videotapes social events; Ross has a store selling lubricants; some make different kinds of "masitas" (a local snack); and others earn livings making macrame products. All of the members want to improve their businesses so they're applying for additional funds to buy products for resale or supplies, as the case may be. They are confident that their sales will increase and they'll be able to earn large enough incomes to support their families.
