A loan of $1,350 helped to purchase land.

Ruth's story

Hello world, meet an inspirational smallhold farmer by the name Ruth. Born in 1977 in the Nandi region of Kenya, Ruth has grown up to be a very hardworking and enterprising woman. Her upbringing was not easy but at least she managed to finish her primary education.

She is currently running a 5.5 acre mixed farm in Sugoi village with the unwavering contribution of her dear 40-year-old husband. She keeps poultry, sheep and dairy cattle that give her eggs, meat and milk to sell.

Ruth is seeking a loan to purchase land. Since 1996, when she ventured into farming, she has been relying on her husband's farm to run the agribusiness, and still will. However, the business has grown and all the space is totally utilized. With the loan investment, she will acquire additional land to facilitate the growth of her business.

Her financial discipline led her to be appointed the treasurer of Emkwen Group (made up of farmers who save together and use the savings to access and guarantee loans of each member). Returns from the investment will go toward loan repayment, setting up the new land and food for her family. She will also use the money to meet all the basic needs of her family.
