A loan of $1,700 helped to construct a cow barn and purchase a motorcycle for produce transportation.

Janeth's story

Janeth is nothing short of a visionary dairy farmer who is based in the outskirts of Litein town, in the South Rift region of Kenya. Her house, covered with corrugated iron sheet, is at the centre of a compound within her luxuriant five acre farm. She started farming in the year 1999. Today, she makes money from selling milk, offering motorcycle transportation services and a side hustle that involves the selling of shoes and clothes. However, surrounded by fresh air, wide open space, and peaceful, natural sounds, she cherishes every minute spent with her cows.

Janeth is seeking a loan from Kiva lenders to construct a cow barn and buy a motorcycle that will help with the transportation of goods and people. The barn will help improve animal health, hygiene and nutrition. The introduction of zero-grazing will help her to improve dairy management, utilize space in her farm, use pasture more efficiently and ration feed.

In rural towns of Kenya, Indian motorcycles are in vogue. Farmers, like Janeth, use the roadster bicycles to transport passengers and farm goods to and from the market. They are suited for areas with poor road networks which are inaccessible by cars. They are also very cheap to acquire and maintain.

Invest in Janeth's future and you won't regret it. She is full of promise. So far, she has managed to send her children to standard private schools with her blood, sweat, and tears. Imagine what she will do with your lending?
