A loan of $4,675 helped a member to further expand her business by purchasing additional firewood and charcoal.

Kazimoto Group's story

Mwanaid S. is a 35-year-old divorced woman with 2 children (ages 18 and 10). She has a business where she sells charcoal and firewood, which she started 5 years ago. She works on a daily basis from 7 am to 6 pm daily, and by doing so she is able to earn a monthly profit of approximately $160.

Mwanaid has already received one previous loan from Tujijenge Tanzania to expand and improve her business, and she proudly states that she promptly repaid that loan. Now, she is seeking a second loan to increase her inventory by buying more charcoal and firewood. Notably, Mwanaid would share the loan proceeds with her loan group, Kazimoto, which totals 24 members. In this group, members guarantee each others' loans (i.e., if one member does not promptly repay his or her portion of the loan, then the other members are responsible for curing the arrears), and they provide support for one another to repay their respective loans. In the picture, Mwanaid is squatting third from the left.
