Paulina António's story

Paulina António M. is a native of the city of Maputo in the Chamanculo district. She is 40 years old, separated, and the mother of a 10 year-old son who is in the 5th grade. Besides her son she also supports her mother and a nephew who live together. Paulina studied until the 10th grade and stopped because of social situations. As soon as she had problems continuing with her studies she got together with the father of her son and they lived together for 8 years. After that she returned to her mother's home and her mother cleared an area of land for her to construct a little house where she lives today. Paulina makes a living from a business that consists of selling household appliances which she acquires in South Africa. Her focus is on Televisions. She purchases a small T.V. for 450 rands and sells it for 1,800MT and purchases a large T.V for 600 rands and sells it for 2,800MT. In this way she is able to make 36,000MT monthly from her sales and save 5,000MT. Paulina intends to use this loan to increase her merchandise. This is her first loan with Hluvuku and with Kiva. She intends to pay it off before the term so she can solicit another loan to improve her living conditions.
