A loan helped a member to purchase natural medicines at wholesale cost.

San Martin Group's story

The San Martin Communal Association will begin its second loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Cascada center . The San Martin group is made up of eight members and is headed by a governing committee, of which señora Rosario is the president. The businesses of the members of the communal association are varied and include the sale of food, sale of salchipapa (a kind of local kabab), a small general store, sale of fruit, construction services, weaving of shawls, sales of cleaning products, sale of natural medicines, manufacture of jackets and sales of CDs.

The loan they are taking out will benefit these small entrepreneurs, one of whom is señora Rosaria. She says that she joined Pro Mujer five years ago, at the invitation of of a relative who was a client of the institution. At present, señora Rosario has a business in the sale of natural remedies. She began this business with the first loan that she obtained through Pro Mujer. She received her knowledge of the products from her partner, who worked with natural remedies.

The loan that she will obtain this time is for an increase in capital (for the purchase of natural medicines from Perú on a wholesale level). Later, she will sell these products to her clients in the markets of El Alto (La Paz). This kind of work enables her to generate resources to assist her family, since she now is in a relationship with a man and has a child. When she was asked what she liked about Pro Mujer, she replied that she was pleased with the loan and with the training that the insttitucion offers her.
