A loan helped to build a latrine.

Saran's story

Saran is 28 years old and the mother of two little children, who are currently in school. She lives in a small village in Battambang Province, Cambodia. In the last fourteen years, she has been involved in a farming business, growing rice and selling the crops to local dealers. She is an active and honest rice farmer who makes a net profit of about USD 5.00 per day.

Saran wants to improve the general living conditions of her entire family by having a latrine to us, because there is no latrine in her house now. Therefore, she is borrowing a loan from KIVA to build a latrine and pay for its upkeep. By doing this, she can help her family members gain access to sanitation, promote their health, and help to lessen environmental deterioration.

She is thankful for the loan granted through HKL with a much lower interest rate than other general loan products.
