Lina Marcela
Lina is a woman who is very dedicated to her family and her work. Her tenacity and perserverance have allowed her to get ahead, while surpassing many different obstacles that have stood in her way.

2 years ago, she started her own business, providing nail grooming services and makeup. She also provides in-home services, depending on the desires of her customers. Her work has allowed her to generate more income in order to support her husband with the economic burdens of the household, and to meet the needs of her baby.

With the loan she is requesting, she will invest in buying a motorbike, which will allow her to travel more easily in order to provide her home services. She currently uses public transport, which really delays her business. This will allow her to continue her work and provide a more complete service to her customers, in a more agile and efficient way. This will also improve her profit margins for her labor.

Lina says that her biggest desire is to be able to continue her work, and to establish and strengthen her business so she can be more competitive in the market. Therefore, she will have the ability to provide a better quality of life for her family.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
