Lan's Group's story

Lan, a hardworking 46-year-old farmer, lives in the small village of Dong Anh, a rural area of Ha Noi. She has two sons, both of whom are married. Lan and her husband raise pigs and chickens and grow rice. Her husband also repairs vehicles to earn a living. Their family earns a monthly income of VND 8,000,000.

Lan has participated in SEDA’s credit program since 2006. In her last loan, she borrowed VND 9,810,000 and repaid on time. She is now requesting a new loan of VND 11,118,000 to buy animal fodder. She wishes to earn enough money to buy needed furniture for her house.

There are five other members in Lan’s group:

1. Lung is a dynamic 52-year-old woman who sells dry tea to earn money. She is requesting a loan of VND 9,810,000 to invest in her business.

2. Hien is a 48-year-old mother of two. She would like to borrow VND 5,014,000 to buy more fish to resell at the market.

3. Mai, a tailor born in 1967, is the mother of two. She is requesting a VND 7,194,000 loan to buy a new sewing machine.

4. Nhan, 52 years old, has two children. She is requesting a loan of VND 4,142,000 to raise pigs.

5. Oanh, born in 1959, is the mother of three. She wants to borrow VND 5,014,000 to buy a new freezer to invest her business.
