A loan of $675 helped to build a granny-flat in her home to rent out and have another source of income.

Maria Isabel's story

María is separated and has four children; two of her children now have their own families, while two still live at home and are studying.

All of the family lives in the city of Santo Domingo de los Colorados, a bridge between the country's different regions.

María is a happy and charismatic woman. She has found ways to help her family to get ahead, as she is both mother and father to her children. In the mornings, María works as a kitchen helper at a restaurant, while she sells cosmetics and household goods in the afternoons. For these sales, María goes round the local barrio and neighbouring areas in order to support her household.

María has worked very hard. She has her own house that, little by little, she has renovated. Now, with this loan, she will set up a granny flat in her home to rent out and generate another income to continue providing her children with an education.

María is very grateful for the support from "Fundación Alternativa" and Kiva, who are making her personal growth possible.
