Jamira's Group's story

Jamira's group is comprised of two hard working women. Jamira is 16 years old and lives in the town of Pallisa, in the Lganga region of Uganda. For the past year, Jamira has worked hard to manage her business, which sells new clothes. To expand her business, Jamira has requested a loan of 400000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase for new clothes for sale, and will help Jamira generate greater profits and go back to school and pay her tuition fee. Jamira hopes to start a new business of selling shoes. Jamira is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to micro-finance loans, the program provides a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a form life-skills through training.
