A loan of $1,125 helped to apply for a master's degree in Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University.

Valentina's story

Valentina, 24, was born in Armenia, Quindío, located in the west of Colombia, but currently lives in Cali, Cauca Valley. She's the oldest daughter in her family. Her younger brother attends the Universidad del Valle, her mother's a homemaker, and her father's a mechanical engineer. Despite the financial problems they had because only her father was earning money to support the household and often it wasn't enough, Valentina studied at the Universidad del Valle and will receive her degree in social communication in November.

Valentina has planned a goal for herself of continuing her studies at the graduate level once she graduates. That's why she dreams of doing a master's degree in media, culture, and communication at New York University in the United States. To achieve this she needs to ask for Kiva's support, because it's the only way to be able to cover the expenses for language tests and university applications. Once she finishes her master's and returns to Colombia, Valentina wants to plan a cultural venture in her area through projects such as "Revista Visaje," a virtual film magazine. That way she can contribute to cultural growth and create film spaces for low-income people and include groups of conflict victims and offer spaces for training.
