A loan of $775 helped to buy a quality dairy cow.

David's story

Hello! Meet David, 45 years of age, very hardworking, ambitious and a go-getter who hails from a very small rural town known as the Siongiroi area in Kenya. He is a proud father of 6 and has been doing mixed farming for the past 14 years. His primary source of income has been milk selling, egg selling and some personal business.

David is very passionate about dairy farming and is kindly seeking a loan from Kiva lenders via Juhudi Kilimo to buy a good quality dairy cow. Dairy farming is one of the most profitable business ventures in Kenya and has been seeing an upsurge in growth. Prices of milk in the recent past have been going up and David, having good entrepreneurial skills, will want to take advantage of the ready market and increase his earnings.

David has already identified a good quality breed of a dairy cow that will be producing between 10-20 liters of milk a day. Through your loan he believes that his earnings will improve and he will permanently change his living conditions and also invest in the education of his school-going children.

David does not have to worry about competition because there is enough demand for milk and this means he will be assured of profits and more income, and through the income he will increase his business. David is a visionary farmer and he plans that, through your loan, he will not only be selling milk in its raw form, but will also invest in packaging the milk and producing dairy products such as yoghurt which require a mini processing plant that is affordable. The result of this is an increase in business and improved living conditions. Profits from the business will allow David to fully pay back the loan.
