A loan of $650 helped to buy shirts, sweaters, footware and cell phone accessories.

Lidis's story

Lidis is a 49 year old woman who lives in the town of Soledad, with her husband and five children from 7 to 30 years of age. They came to this municipality as a result of forced displacement from their home region. Lidis began selling minutes on the cell phones of a friend and little by little, with her small capital, she began her own business venture.

Her principal goal is to help her family get ahead, taking advantage of the assistance of the national government of Colombia in the form of a free dwelling. She feels happy in this place and she works hard to continue growing personally, in her family and in her business, which today not only offers services of phone calls and recharging of phones, but also the sale of a variety of merchandise such as clothing, accessories, and so on. At present, she is applying for a Kiva loan, the first financing that she will be arranging at the Fundacion Mario Santo Domingo, and which she will use to buy shirts, sweaters, footware, cell phone accessories, and so on. With this investment, Lidis will improve the conditions of her business, since an increase in her inventory will impact her both her former and new clients.
