Lenys's story

Lenys is 40 years old. She is the owner of a seamstress hop. She started this activity after studying fashion and graduating with that degree. Her family group is made up of her husband and 2 daughters, aged 15 and 20. She dreams of a quality education for them and that is her most important family goal. When she started her business in 2008, she decided to have her own workshop related to what she studied. That led to her organizing her her sewing business. Since then, she has worked from 8 in the morning until 6 in the evening. She pays for her fabrics up front at the store in the city and sells to customers, including friends, family members and referrals. Her goal for the future is to expand by buying machines and hiring people, which will increase her productivity. Right now, she is applying for a Kiva loan, the first loan she has taken out with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With it, she will buy larger quantities of fabrics, thread and accessories. This is to increase production and her sales so she can improve her business with this investment.
