A loan of $700 helped to buy an industrial stove and ingredients.

Omar's story

Omar is 44 years old and makes and sells lunches as well as running an advertising business.

15 years ago Omar decided to start up a business, since he had a great knack for cooking and experience working in a restaurant in a neighbouring country. However at the time it was difficult to make an income in that country so he returned to his home country, Colombia, and made do with what he could carry back with him. He now sells sancocho and set meals and lately he has started working in advertising, making posters, recipe books and calendars. He sells a limited amount directly to the consumer and his main customers are employees of the companies in his area. Omar's future goal is to have his own store and outfit his restaurant professionally to generate stability as well as buying his own home which he will pay off with the income from the restaurant.

At the moment Omar is applying for a loan from Kiva. It is the first loan that he has taken out with the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With this loan he will buy an industrial stove and ingredients to expand his menu which will increase his sales, including the sale of products from his own home. This will ultimately make his Kiva loan successful.
