Esther's story

Wonderful Lenders! The above picture presents to you a 40-year-old woman who is very hardworking and very passionate about farming, a mother of four lovely children. She hails from the Nyamira area of Kenya, a region known for growing bananas. Esther was raised in challenging circumstances and her basic needs were never covered, so she vowed she would turn her life around and live a comfortable life. That is why she started mixed farming, and she has been farming for the past 14 years. Through dedication, hard work and commitment, she has been able to provide for the basic needs of her family. Although she makes some profit, she has the challenge of inadequate water for irrigating her crops and even for her home consumption.
Most of the rain water is wasted, and Esther wants to harvest that water. That is why she is kindly requesting a loan to buy a water tank. The Nyamira area has no piped water, and this means that you have to travel for long distances in such of “this precious commodity.” But, with the loan, she will be able to store water for home consumption. The loan will also help Esther irrigate her farm. She plans to use the sprinkle irrigation method, so that there will be a high production level on her farm. Esther always says “Water is a very precious commodity and should not go to waste”. Having access to funds is very challenging for African women, but with partners such as Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, Esther is sure that her dreams will become a reality and she will be able to improve her living conditions. The profits from increased production of crops will be used to repay the loan and also to improving her living conditions. She also plans to buy more water tanks so that she can harvest as much water as possible. Esther awaits your kindness.
