A loan of $900 helped a member to purchase more trees to grow.

Marine's Group's story

Marine's group includes hardworking women. Marine is 16 years old and lives in the town of Ishaka in the Kabwohe region of Uganda. She is single and has no children. For the past two years, Marine has been working hard to manage her farming business, which enables her to sell tea leaves.

To help expand her business, Marine has requested a loan of 600,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more trees to grow and will help Marine to generate greater profits and educate her siblings. Marine hopes that in the future she will be able to earn more profits.

Marine is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.

In this group: Marine, Docus, Donam, Sicora
