Shamim's story

Shamim is 33-years-old and lives in the town of Mbale in the Mbale region of Uganda. She is married and has four children with three of them currently in school. For the past 11 years, Shamim has been working hard to manage her salon/clothing business, which sells clothes /deals in hair dressing.

To help expand her business, Shamim has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more clothes, and will help Shamim to generate greater profits and increase capital. Shamim hopes that in the future she will be able to have more rental houses.

Shamim is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Shamim who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
