Harriet's story

Harriet is 38 years old and lives in the town of Kinoni in the Masaka region of Uganda. She is married and has five children who are all currently in school. For the past 10 years, Harriet has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar, rice, posho, soda, salt, mineral water, soap, beers, cooking oil and toilet paper. To help expand her business, Harriet has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy juice, Blue Band spread, sugar, rice, posho, soda, salt, mineral water, soap, beers, cooking oil and toilet paper, and will help Harriet to generate greater profits and earn more. Harriet hopes that in the future, she will be able to achieve her targeted goals. Harriet is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Harriet who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
