A loan of $3,625 helped a member to purchase merchandise to stock her convenience store.

Churonitas (Cuenca) Group's story

The group Las Churonitas is made up of nine upbeat, determined women, all of whom live in and around the city of Cuenca. They are united by the common goal of strengthening their respective business endeavors and providing for their families. Cuenca is a city with great natural and architectural beauty, and since December of 1999, Cuenca has been a United Nations World Heritage Site. The people of the region still live out and maintain the cultures and traditions of their ancestors and heritage.

One of the group members is Blanca, who is 38 years old and is a single mother to her 8-year-old son, who is studying at a local school. Blanca and her son are currently renting the house where they live. In order to support her son and cover household expenses, Blanca runs a small convenience store where she works seven days a week. With the support from this loan, Blanca plans to purchase merchandise to stock her convenience store and offer a wider variety of products to her customers. Blanca's dream is to one day travel the world and see new places.
