A loan of $275 helped purchase fertilizer for potato crops.

Elena's story

Elena is a 45-year-old woman who has been a widow for 12 years. She has three children who live with her. After having been widowed, she decided to sell pastry in the town square. She was then given the opportunity to sell food and dessert in a school snack bar, where she worked up until 8 months ago when she had to leave the job due to health reasons. Aside from her business, she has grown potatoes all her life. Now, with the help of her children, she grows several varieties of this tuber, both for their consumption and for sale. Customers pay well for her crops, and she is able to make a profit. Her biggest problem, however, is that she does not have enough money to be able to plant greater quantities of potatoes. This is Elena’s 7th loan with MFP, and she has demonstrated payment punctuality the whole time. She will purchase 20 sacks of guano, which will cost approximately 500.00 PEN, to fertilize the potatoes, and she will pay the workers.
