A loan of $875 helped to build a latrine.

Phuon's story

Phuon is a 24-year-old married woman who has three dependent children. She lives in the Bakan District of Pursat Province which is located in the western part of Cambodia.

To earn a living, she and her husband manage a rice farming business which is the sole source of their income. So far, they have been in this occupation for five years with an average income of $5 a day.

Phuon wants to improve the general living conditions of the entire family by having a latrine to use because there is no latrine in her house now. So, she is borrowing a loan from Kiva to build a latrine and buy its facilities.

By doing this, she can help her family members gain access to sanitation, promote their health, and help to lessen environmental deterioration.

She is thankful for the loan granted through Hattha Kaksekar Limited (HKL) with a much lower interest rate than its other general loan products.
