Xuan's Group's story

Xuan is 60-year-old woman living in small village of Bac Ninh province. She has been running a grocery for 20 years. Xuan also works as a woman union official at her village. Her family has three children, all of whom are married and have their own families. Her husband runs a winery and raises pigs for a living. Her family monthly income is VND 4,000,000.

Xuan has participated in the SEDA program since 2008, with the current loan cycle being the seventh one, and has successfully repaid a loan of VND 10,967,000. Due to her financial shortages, she would like to borrow VND 13,216,000, in order to buy more goods for her grocery store. Xuan wishes that by doing so, she could earn more money to improve her family’s living standard as well as to save money for the future. Xuan is also the leader of a group that includes seven other SEDA members, who are included in the following list. • Ba sells fruit in the market. She is 55 years old. She is requesting a loan of 13,216, 000 to buy more varieties of fruit to resell. • Nam is 53 years old. She wants to borrow VND 13,216,000 to buy more vegetables to resell in the market. • Thuy is 58 years old. She runs a food stall. She would like to borrow VND 13,216,000 to buy more meats, vegetables and spices for her stall. • Giang is 34 years old. She runs a food stall. She wants to borrow VND 13,216,000 to invest in her business. • Thu sells fruit to earn a living. She is 52 years old. She is applying for a 9,184,000 VND loan to buy more kinds of fruit for her shop. • Quang is 48 years old. She sells dried food. She is requesting a loan of VND 9,184,000 to invest her business. • Bich runs a grocery. She is 44 years old. She wants to borrow 7,392,000 to enlarge her grocery store.
