A loan of $475 helped to obtain a water pump for irrigation.

Getrude's story

Getrude, age 38, is from Chibombo District, Zambia where she lives with her husband and 4 children. She is asking for a loan for a water pump that will help her irrigate her crops. Getrude grows tomatoes, fresh maize, and a local eggplant called “impwa” on her small farm, selling her produce to marketeers who come from Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka. Last year she used the profits from this to help pay her children’s school fees. This year she is hoping to expand her garden, and increase her profits, while reducing the labour required to provide irrigation. Rent to Own has worked with Getrude to create a business plan for this growing season. Rent to Own will deliver the water pump directly to Getrude’s farm, and provide her with training on how to properly use and maintain the pump, and will also check in to provide support until she has completed her loan.
