A loan of $1,150 helped to buy crates of soda, beer and spirits.

Sophie's story

Sophie lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is married with 10 children, five of whom go to school. She also takes care of additional family members (her mother).

She operates a pub and has been in this business for 10 years. She has applied for a loan of 3,000,000 Uganda shillings from MCDT-SACCO to buy more crates of beer and soda and to load more money on her phone. She generates additional income from operating mobile money services and also sells spare parts. She works in a shop for seven days a week and sells on a retail basis. Her major business challenges include thieves and seasonality.

She is aspiring of owning a fully stocked pub and also to become a big mobile money agent. She resides in the family house, and the family has access to electricity but not piped water. Her monthly expenses include school fees and feeding the family.
