A loan of $475 helped to obtain a water pump for irrigation.

Victor's story

Victor is a farmer in Chibombo District, Zambia. He is asking for a loan so that he can obtain a water pump to help irrigate and expand his vegetable crops.

Vegetable gardening is big business for many farmers in Chibombo District. Last season Victor grew cabbage and fresh maize that he sold at a large market in Zambia’s capital city, Lusaka. This season he is planning on also growing green peppers and a local eggplant called “impwa”.

Because it is the dry season in Zambia, water needs to be applied to the crops regularly, often brought to the garden by buckets from a nearby well or stream. A water pump would significantly reduce Victor’s need for labour and allow him to further expand his gardens.

Rent to Own has worked with Victor to create a business plan for this gardening season and will deliver the water pump directly to his farm. Rent to Own also provides technical training on how to properly use and maintain the water pump, and will check in to provide support until he has paid off his loan.
