A loan of $1,050 helped to buy 60 cans of herbicide and 20 sacks of fertilizer.

Kassoum's story

Mr. Kassoum was born circa 1956 in Niena, where he lives. He's married and the father of five children. He lives with his spouse in a traditional family in Socourani, a neighborhood in Niena, Sikasso Cercle, in the third administrative region of the Republic of Mali.

Mr. KASSOUM has been buying and selling herbicides and fertilizers for the past 20 years. He gets his supplies in Sikasso, and he is seeking his first loan from Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso, in order to better meet an ever-increasing customer demand.

This loan will enable him to buy 5 boxes of 12 cans of herbicide of various quality and twenty 50 kg sacks of fertilizer. He buys in Sikasso, and retails in Niena, for cash and on credit, to a clientele comprising both men and women.

He foresees turning an average monthly profit of XOF 97'000, which will enable him to repay the loan and interest. The remainder will be invested in his business.
