A loan of $1,950 helped a member to buy ointments, creams, and other beauty products.

Benkola (Accord) Group's story

The members of the group BENKOLA are mostly married women who average 20 years of age and one child. They live in traditional polygamous families with their husband and children in the village of Marka-Coungo (Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali).

The women of the group know one another via marital ties and are specialized in the commerce of beauty products. They are on their eighth solidarity loan (group loan) with Soro Yiriwaso. All of their preceding loans have been correctly repaid. This new loan will serve to buy: 300 jars of ointment and cream, 200 bottles of perfume of different grades, and other beauty care products.

They get their supplies exclusively in Bamako (capital of Mali) from wholesalers in this field. They come back to sell the goods at the marketplaces of Marka-Coungo and Fana, cash or credit accepted, to customers essentially composed of women. They each hope to realize a profit of 30,000 francs CFA per cycle each month that will be used to cover family expenses (cost of food, hygiene, and schooling for the children).
