A loan of $425 helped hire laborers to help her work her farmland.

Edith's story

Edith is 30 years old, lives with her partner who works as a chauffer transporting passengers, and they have three children. She dedicates herself to caring for the children and to her studies from Monday to Friday. On the weekends, she tends to her farmland where she cultivates potatoes that she plants for her own consumption since, as she tells us, what she buys at the market is not enough. She likes farming because, since she was a young girl, she was raised in this environment. Her parents were farmers and, for her, this activity has been the primary source of income. The items she grows are indispensable to the daily menu. The difficulty she has is that her partner does not enjoy farming, so she undertakes her activities on her own. This is her 7th loan with MFP. With the funds she is requesting, she will hire laborers to help work her land. Each worker charges 15 soles per week, and she calculates she would need 20 people. The remainder of the funds would be used to purchase herbicides.
