Martha María's story

In the sector known as Estancia Vieja in the Colon parish within the city of Portoviejo, the members of the Communal Bank “Estancia Vieja” meet every 15 days. The humble people who live in this place are devoted to agriculture and general trade.

Sra. Martha lives in this place. She is 34 years old, married, and has an eight-year-old son who is in school. Her husband works at a restaurant that specializes in spicy foods.

Doña Martha is a woman who enjoys working and helping her husband with the household expenses. She has a bazaar in her home where she sells clothes, shoes, purses, perfumes, and many other products such as gifts, notebooks, and school supplies. Martha also offers rechargeable phone cards from various companies as a way of earning some extra income. She enjoys working because she is able to make a living and provide for the needs of her children.

This loan will be used to buy clothes, shoes, perfumes, trinkets, cosmetics, notebooks, and everything else that she can sell. She has participated in four loan cycles with the Communal Bank and enjoys the help that the loans have given her. Her dreams include having a large bazaar.
