Zenhang A Group
Hatneitling says she has always been interested in weaving since childhood. She used to weave before her marriage and continued this profession after marriage. She weaves traditional shawls and ladies' wrap-around skirts and sells them for 2,500 to 3,000 INR. She says that these items are in high demand at the market and have no risk of expiration. Demand for Hatneitling products is high during holidays and festive seasons, which in Manipur fall in the months of March, October, November and December. They are used as gifts on occasions like weddings, childbirths, send-off ceremonies, Ningol Chakkouba (married daughters’ home visit) and house-warmings. She cannot meet customer demand on time due to shortage of her products, so she wants to continue her weaving even after sunset to speed up her work and also to increase her inventory.
The power supply in her area is a big hurdle to her income generating activity, however. The solar loan will help her to buy a 45-watt solar home lighting system, which will light up four light bulbs for 12 hours a day. Since it has a 90-meter-long wire, it can be installed in any room in the house for one’s convenience. She believes that this solar lighting will serve her purpose in meeting her customers' demands and can raise her income since she can work extra hours after sunset.
Likewise, the rest of the group members need solar loans for their respective income-generating activities. The other member’s activities are weaving, grocery store, pan shop, etc.

WSDS-Initiate is an inclusive nonprofit that works with women across all tribes and minority communities in Manipur, located in the remote northeast region of India. Most organizations concentrate their work in the plains region of Manipur, but WSDS is among the very few organizations serving women in the isolated hills. Political unrest and frequent economic blockades in the area make it very difficult to provide services, resulting in Manipur having the lowest penetration of financial services in the country.
This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
