A loan of $775 helped to buy more charcoal.

Madina Khaitsa's story

Madina Khaitsa is 35 years old and lives in the town of Nakaloke, in the Mbale region of Uganda. She is married and has three children, two of whom are currently in school.

For the past two years, Madina Khaitsa has been working hard to manage her charcoal business, in which she sells charcoal.

To help expand her business, Madina Khaitsa has requested a loan of UGX 2,000,000 (Ugandan shillings) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more charcoal and will help Madina Khaitsa to generate greater profits. Madina Khaitsa hopes that, in the future, she will be able to expand the business.

Madina Khaitsa is a member of BRAC Uganda's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs, like Madina Khaitsa, who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
