A loan helped to buy fertilizer, watering equipment and labor.

Jose Benito's story

As the first drops of rain fall on Nicaraguan land, the farmers start their traditional cycle of work. Jose, a 68-year-old farmer is no exception. Several years ago, this man started to work in agriculture. He didn't think that he would make it, as he had only ever studied primary education due to financial difficulties when he was young.

He is the father of three adult children who help him work as well as he can. He has a beautiful wife who always supports him, day after day.

A short time ago, Jose asked for a loan from MiCredito-Kiva to cover the costs of sowing a plot of land with corn together with the purchase of labor, fertilizers and fungicides. He is very grateful because he can see the good results.

Now, as the season starts again, he is asking for a new loan for a tobacco harvest. For this he needs to buy fertilizer, a watering machine and to pay for labor costs.

With this loan, he hopes that he will continue to be successful and generate an income which will allow him to make improvements to his home and offer the best quality of life to his family.
