Devi Shg Group's story

Bakani is a 47-year-old lady. She has two children, both of whom are in school. Her family lives in a village in the Jajpur District in Odisha, India. She and her husband earn a living through working as farmers and cultivating rice and vegetables. Having been in this business for seven years, she is able to earn approximately 3,000 INR per month to meet her family’s needs. Bakani is leading a group named Devi Self Help Group. Its eight members are applying for a loan with Peoples' Forum. The members of Devi Self Help Group are engaged in different kinds of activities like agriculture, a general store, a dairy farm, and a wood business. Bakani is going to use her portion to buy fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and some irrigation tools for her farmland. With this loan, she hopes to raise more crops and sell them for a good price to make a better living to send her children to a good school.
