A loan of $300 helped to buy seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, and to pay the rent on the 10,500 square meters of land he cultivates.

Víctor Manuel's story

Victor is 63 years old. He was able to go to school only until second grade, due to his family's financial conditions, but he goes to the literacy circles that take place in his community. He is married, and his wife is a housewife. They have seven children, all of whom are married and live in their own homes, so Victor now lives only with his wife. Victor has worked in agriculture since he was a boy. He says he learned this from an uncle, because Victor needed to support his mother and brothers, because his father was not with them. Victor grows corn in a field that is one kilometer from his house. He travels to the field on foot and has to climb a hill. He also grows watermelons and other melons in small quantities. He is requesting this loan to buy seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, and to pay the rent on the 10,500 square meters of land he cultivates. Now is the planting season, and thanks to the opportunity provided by this loan, Victor plans to cultivate a field and a half. He rents the land from a neighbor. Victor would like to buy his own small plot of land to cultivate, as well as see his grandchildren grow up and help them financially so that they can continue to go to school.
