A loan of $450 helped buy fabric, thread, runners.

Beatriz Elena's story

Beatriz is 39 years old and has fourteen years of experience running a sewing business which she began when she was a young woman. She enjoyed sewing and managed to take some advanced courses in it. She makes all kinds of clothing and sells it to friends and relatives who are her principal market. Every day she works from 8 in the morning to 8 at night buying supplies for cash whenever her customers need items.

In the future Beatriz wants to employ staff and also buy a house. Her major challenge is finding new customers and generating more income. Right now she is applying for a loan through Kiva, the first one she has had with the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation. With the money she will buy fabric, thread, runners etc. Then she will have the material she needs to produce and sell items of clothing, thereby earning more money and capitalizing on her investment.
