Houenoussou Group's story

The Houenoussou group consists of three people who live in the same neighborhood and belong to the same tontine group (savings association). The representative for this group, named Baï Augustine, is the one whose hand is raised in the photo. This is the third time that the group has sought financial support from ALIDé to raise the level of their activity. Baï Augustine is 43 years old and is married to Anselme. The couple has three children, all in school, and of whom two are their dependents. Baï Augustine lives with her husband and children. The couple handles together the various household expenses. Baï Augustine left school at secondary level and learned sewing, which became her main activity for the past fourteen years. Besides this activity, which enables her to contribute towards the household's diverse needs, she sells haberdashery items, charcoal and onions from her home. She resupplies in one of Benin's markets. To strengthen her business and better respond to her customers' demands, Baï Augustine is requesting a third loan, together with the other members of the Houenoussou group. Previous loans have been fully repaid.
