The Encarnación Group is in its 7th loan cycle with the Committee of Women Entrepreneurs program, where they all work together and help each other get ahead. Teresa is one of the members and the Director General of the Committee. She earns a living by selling clothing and also works as an employee in the private sector. Thanks to these jobs, she has been able to get ahead and ensure the well being of her home. Her husband also works, and thus contributes income to the household.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
