A loan of $500 helped to purchase a boat motor for fishing.

El's story

Mr. El S. (pictured with his daughter), 66, and his wife, Mrs. Siasas Chres, 57, who live along National Road Number Six about 20 kilometers from Phnom Penh, were married in 1979 and have three daughters, all married, but only one lives outside the family home. One daughter is a grocery seller and another is a fisherwoman.

El has been fishing since he was young, having learned the skill from his parents. He catches fish to sell from the Mekong River and the lake near the village. His wife is a fortune teller, an art she learned from her mother. El is now requesting a loan of $500 to purchase one boat motor for fishing.
