A loan of $500 helped to obtain a water pump for irrigation.

Brighton's story

Brighton, 27, lives in Kabwe District, Zambia with his wife and two children. He is asking for a loan so that he can obtain a water pump that will help him irrigate and expand his garden.

Last season, Brighton grew tomatoes, drawing water by hand from a nearby well in order to irrigate them. This season, he has big plans to expand his production, and will need a water pump in order to keep up with the irrigation required during Zambia’s dry season.

Rent to Own has worked with Brighton to create a business plan for this growing season. Rent to Own will deliver the water pump directly to Brighton’s farm and provide him with training on how to use and maintain the water pump, and will check in to provide support until he has completed his loan.

With a water pump, Brighton is planning to also start growing different crops, including watermelons, which are popular at markets within Kabwe.
