Santhanamullai Shg Group's story

Karpagam (27) is a married woman living in Kodalikarupur Village of Tamil Nadu, India. Her husband is a daily wage worker in agriculture fields. They have three children; all are studying in the local Government School. She is the group leader of the“Santhanamullai” Self-Help-Group (SHG), which has been receiving loans from the local NGO “People’s Action for Transformation” (PAT) for the last five years. Her group has been making on time repayments.
Karpagam (who is standing, second lady from the left with her hand raised) and her group are requesting a Kiva loan to purchase a smokeless stove from Grameen Infra, a sustainable stove manufacturer. This small loan will be repaid in easy installments.

Household air pollution from open fires kills 4 million people every year and is one of the top health risks in South Asia. The Greenway Smart Stove reduces smoke emissions by up to 70% while requiring minimal fuel (can be in the form of wood, cow dung, or agricultural waste). Most importantly the stove reduces household air pollution, preserving the health of those who use it.

The 16 group members (Including Karpagam) are thankful to Kiva lenders for giving them the opportunity to be more sustainable and save money.

In this group: Karpagam, Sathiyavanimuthu, Nilvazhagi, Sumathi, Mekala, Nathiya, Priya, Sumathi, Susila, Kala, Senthamilselvi, Ranjani, Gomathi, Sankari, Sangeetha, Dhanalakshmi
