A loan helped to build a latrine.

Sum's story

Sum is 35 years old, and a married woman with three children. She lives in Bakan District, Pursat Province, which is located in the western part of Cambodia. To earn a living, she and her husband manage a rice farming business on approximately two hectares of farmland. It is the sole source of their income. They have been in this occupation for eight years.

Sum wants to improve the general living conditions of the entire family, by having a latrine to use. There is no latrine in her house now. Therefore, she is borrowing a loan from Kiva, to build a latrine and buy its fixtures. By doing this, she can help her family members gain access to sanitation, promote their health, and help to lessen environmental deterioration. She is thankful for the loan granted through HKL, which has a much lower interest rate than other, general loan products.
