A loan of $325 helped to buy food items and soft drinks.

Phrister's story

Phrister is a hardworking woman. She is 24 years old and lives in the town of Kitintale in the Kampala South region of Uganda. She is single and has one child who is currently in school.

For the past 2 years, Phrister has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food and soft drinks.

To help expand her business, she has requested a loan of 800,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy food items and soft drinks, and will help her to generate greater profits and to educate her child. She hopes that in the future she will be able to build a house.

Phrister is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life skills training.
