A loan of $1,375 helped to stock for more food for sale for her restaurant business.

Polly's story

Polly is 44 years old and lives in the town of Makindye in the Kampala south region of Uganda. She is married and has six children with four of them currently in school. For the past 15 years, Polly has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food.

To help expand her business, she has requested a loan of 3,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock for more food for sale, and will help Polly to generate greater profits and pay school fees for her children. She hopes that in the future she will be able to buy another plot of land.

Polly is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs similar to Polly who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
