A loan of $600 helped a member to buy charcoal in a larger quantity.

Saumu's Group's story

Saumu has been selling charcoal in the Darajabovu neighborhood of Zanzibar for two years. She works for twelve hours every day and earns a profit of approximately $40 each month. She is requesting her first loan from BRAC Tanzania so that she can buy charcoal in a greater quantity than she would otherwise be able to. If this loan helps her to expand her business, she intends to use the increased profits to reinvest in her business so that it can continue to grow.

Saumu is 23 years old, married, and has three children, aged 2, 3, and 6. She will be sharing this loan with her fellow group members, Rehema, Asha, Pili, and Maryam. Each has her own small business in Zanzibar.
