A loan of $1,425 helped a member to purchase beauty creams, nail polish, deodorant, ladies' items and gift materials.


Tirupati Swamy Group's story

Jasobanti, aged about 49 years, is the group leader of a six-member group in Muniguda town situated in Rayagada district of Odisha state in India. Her family comprises three members, herself, her husband, and one daughter aged 19. The member standing third from left with raised hand is Jasobanti. At present she is running a fancy shop in her locality. She is a very active lady who wants some extra income out of her own efforts.

During 2008 she, along with other members of her village, formed a group and for the first time they took a loan from Mahashakti Foundation for the development of their existing business. Jasobanti’s husband is assisting her to run the business smoothly. At present her family income is about Rs.6,500 per month which is not sufficient to maintain the family.

To improve her living conditions and to earn some extra income she wants to access another loan. From the loan amount she will purchase beauty creams, nail polish, deodorant, ladies' items and gift materials to improve her business.

The other five members are doing a fish business, a leaf plate business, a hotel, and a fancy shop.
