Estrella Dorada Group's story

In a community in Oaxaca, the climate is temperate and humid with rains in summer. Some of the tourist attractions in this area are the traditional Sugar Cane Festival held during the month of May to end the harvest and the Corpus Cristi celebration held on the 15th of June.

The Estrella dorada group is made up of 7 members: Cinthia - clothing sales, Elizabeth - clothing sales, Francisca - production and sales of serviettes, Cristina - sales of tamales and toasted corn snacks, Edgardo - sales of beverages, Juan - sales of soft drinks and Raquel - embroidered crafts.

Raquel has earned a living for the last 10 years making and selling serviettes and tablecloths that she embroiders and knits herself. She comments that when she was young she used to watch how her mother, who taught her the art, used to do it, and when doing it now she always remembers her. With this credit she will buy needles, frames, thread for embroidery and knitting, serviettes and tablecloths. With the earnings she will support her husband with household expenses.
