Benkelema 4 Group's story

The members of the group called Benkelema 4 are married women with an average age of 43 and on average, four children, and all live in polygamous families in Konona, one of the villages of the community of Dambela in the third administrative region of Mali, Sikasso.

They collaborate with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso so as to succeed in their agricultural activities during this rainy season. They are on their sixth loan with the institution, the prior loans having been correctly reimbursed. The crop cultivated is maize in the case of Assatou, standing in the middle. With her loan she expects to buy farm inputs and seeds to maintain one hectare. The produce is sold right in the village, in the markets of Sikasso, after the harvest, to a clientele composed of men and women.

Assatou expects to make a profit of 175,000 F CFA per season. This profit will permit her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with daily expenses.
