Gugulethu is a thirty four year old woman. She stays in Glenview, a high density surburb of Harare. Gugulethu provides pressure pump and tyre services in her local area. She also sells and repairs second hand tyres. She has been running this business for two years now and it has enabled her to support her family. Gugulethu is married with two children, she is also taking care of three children of her late sister, so her profits barely meet her needs. Gugulethu`s hard work and ambition led her to buy her own pressure pump. However her business is still growing and she cannot afford to sell new tyres. With a kiva loan, Gugulethu will buy new tyres, expand her business and make more profits. It is her wish to grow the business and create employment in her community.

THRIVE Microfinance is a for-profit microfinance institution in Zimbabwe that was founded in 2012 by former Kiva Fellow Henry Bartram. The organization provides productive business loans that utilize the group lending methodology, lends only to women, and provides auxiliary training before and after loans.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
